Whether you’re a surface, fashion, web or graphic designer and don’t know how to make repeating patterns in Illustrator with this feature (again, CS6 and newer), you are missing out! This video tutorial goes through everything you need to know about using the repeating pattern tool and the different settings available to create straight or half drop repeats.

In this step by step Illustrator video tutorial, we’ll learn how to:

  • Adjust settings in the pattern editing panel (0:40)
  • Adjust the size of the pattern tile (1:02)
  • Save a copy of the pattern while in pattern editing mode (1:55)
  • Understand what the “Any additional changes made while in Pattern Editing Mode will be applied to the original pattern, not the copy” dialog means (2:07)
