Saying goodbye to SFD

Going forward, SFD will be focused on helping you succeed as a freelancer in fashion. All content be about freelancing and nothing else. (Which means I won’t be creating tutorials on Illustrator, tech packs, resumes, starting your clothing line, etc.) The name will eventually change from SFD (Successful Fashion Designer) to SFF (Successful Fashion Freelancer).

On a personal level, I am 1000% excited about this change. I realize some of you may not be. I don’t want to disappoint you, but I have to do what’s right for me, the business and YOU. And it’s not fair to you when I try to do ALL the things.

I’ve put together this Q&A to share more about the logistics and most importantly, how it affects you.

Thanks so much for being here!

P.S. When I talk about freelancing, I mean true remote work where you get freedom and flexibility working on projects you love. I specifically don’t mean “temp job” freelancing where you work for one brand full-time without benefits and after 3 months are unemployed again.

This work is abusive to our industry and I don’t condone it.

FAQ ABOUT THE CHANGE

Why are you making this change?

Because just like you should be niche, so should I. I tell you all the time that your portfolio should be focused on ONE category or ONE service and you shouldn’t try to do it all. It’s about time I start taking my own advice.

I’ve been trying to do it ALL (Illustrator, tech packs, resumes, starting your own brand, etc). And when you try to do it all, you can’t do an exceptional job.

To best serve you, I need to focus on ONE thing. I’ve chosen freelancing because that’s my biggest passion. It’s also where I can have the biggest impact on your life.

How does this change affect me?

All content going forward will be focused on freelancing.

If you’re interested in that, this is good news! Look forward to a lot more content that will help you create the freedom and flexibility you’re craving in your fashion career.

If you’re not interested in freelancing, I may not be the best resource for you.

What’s happening to all the existing content?

For now, everything will remain on the website / podcast / Youtube channel. In the near future, some content will get updated to be more freelance focused.

What’s happening to the SFD podcast?

The podcast is changing from SFD (Successful Fashion Designer) to SFF (Successful Fashion Freelancer). We will continue airing episodes every other week, but they will all be about freelancing.

What’s happening to all the courses?

All courses (except Successful Fashion Freelancer) will be permanently closed.

You will have one last chance to enroll from May 24 – June 4. After that they will close forever.

You will still have lifetime access to all courses you’ve purchased!

Can I enroll in the courses before they close?

You will have one last chance to enroll from May 24 – June 4. After that they will close forever.

How much do the courses cost?

Below is pricing. Since you may want to enroll in more than one course, we’ve added an extended payment plan option. We hope this gives you more flexibility with your budget!

What’s the difference between all the courses? Which one is right for me?

The courses are complimentary, and there is no overlapping content. While none of the courses are prerequisites for another, many students enjoy multiple courses.

For most people, I suggest starting with the Masterclass. If you want more about flats, then Beautiful Flats is a great add on. For more on patterns, Your Perfect Repeat is a great add on. Design to Development (tech packs) doesn’t touch on Illustrator but is a necessary skill in the industry.

This chart shows the differences and can help you decide:

Will I lose access to courses I’ve purchased?

No! You will still have lifetime access to all the courses you have purchased. We will not delete any of the content.

How long will I have access to courses I’ve purchased?

Forever! We are not deleting the courses or taking your access away. You can still access all the content for your lifetime.

How long will my q’s in the courses be answered?

Until the end of 2022. After that, the Q&A feature will be turned off. The old Q&A will remain visible, you just won’t be able to post Q’s.

How long will the courses be kept up to date?

Until the end of 2022. After that, you will continue to have lifetime access, but I won’t add any new content.
